BELLFLOWER NATIONAL RECORD RELAYS
The first annual Bellflower National Record Relays was in 1958 and would continue until 1970. Sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club, the meet was in the planning for two years with the specific goal of ‘assualting’ existing national prep records (National Federation of Track and Field Handbook).
Initially organized for just 15 events the meet was aimed at emphasizing relay races (8 of them), there are also 7 individual events. The inaugural meet was billed as a hand-picked field of over 500 athletes from 30 different schools in Californa, Nevada, and Arizona. The number of events would expand over time reaching 19 events by 1970.
