GOLDEN WEST INVITATIONAL
The Golden West Invitational was established in 1960 by meet director Jack Germain, a journalist for the Alhambra Free Press and a member of the Monterey Park Junior Chamber of Commerce. He obtained sponsorship from the Monterey Park Junior Chamber of Commerce and held the first meet for invited nationwide high school seniors at East Los Angeles Junior College. The meet moved to Cal State Los Angeles for the 1961, 1962 and 1963 editions and in 1964 to Cerritos JC in Norwalk. In 1965, Germain moved it to Northern California and Sacramento's Hughes Stadium under the sponsorship of the Sacramento Optimist Club.
