The Lone Star Conference was founded in 1931 when five schools (East Texas St., North Texas St., Sam Houston St., Southwestern St., and Stephen F. Austin St.) withdrew from the old Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association. A DII conference, member institutions are located in the South Central states (TX, OK, NM, AR).
