FOOTHILL LEAGUE


The Foothill League started in the fall of 1929 with the first league final track meet being held April 5, 1930 at Occidental's Patterson Field. Charter members were Burbank, Fullerton, Hoover, Monrovia, Muir, South Pasadena and Whittier. .

From 1930 through 1979, Hoover was the only school to compete the entire period. From 1956 through the mid-70s the league consisted of the Burbank schools (Burbank and Burroughs), the Glendale schools (Glendale and Hoover, with Crescenta Valley joining in 1962) and the Pasadena schools (Muir and Pasadena with Blair joining in 1967).

During this same time period (1930 - 1979), Foothill League schools won 14⅔ CIF championships just ahead of the Coast League which won 14½. In State meet standings, the Southern League (LA City) won 12 meets followed by the Foothill League with 7 and Coast League with 5.

Foothill League athletes won 100 CIF Southern Sections championships (including 32 in the 100 and 220). Foothill Leaguers also won 49 state titles.

Olympians that competed in the Foothill League include Jack Davis, Ron Morris, Mack Robinson Guinn Smith and Dwight Stones.
