Prior to the Divisions that we have in NCAA sports today there was just one level of competition for college sports, including track & field. The National Collegiate Championships would be the only meet until 1963 when a new level was added, the NCAA College-Division Championship. These two championships would continue until 1973 when for 1974 NCAA sports were divided into three Divisions: D1, D2, and D3.
