As we attempt to make an accounting for The AAU Junior Nationals we're going to bump around a little bit. Though the Junior AAU meet has it's beginnings in 1900, (the AAU Senior meet in 1876) this meet takes on significant importance in 1972. Originally organized by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships is now called the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships. The U20 Championships are now used for American national team selection for the IAAF World U20 Championships in even-numbered years and the Pan American U20 Athletics Championships in odd-numbered years. This is an entirely different meet from the Junior Olympics.
