The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) has gone through a number of name changes since its founding in 1932. Staring off as the Northern Teachers Athletic Conference in 1932 it would rename itself the State Teacher's College Conference of Minnesota in 1942. A name change in 1962 to the Northern Intercollegiate Conference (NIC) would stick until 1992 when the merger of the men's NIC conference and the women's Northern Sun Conference (NSC) would create the NSIC.
